Comprehensive eye care examination

Eye Care Services at Vinayaka Nethralaya

Detailed eye check-ups focused on long-term vision care & timely detection of eye conditions

A comprehensive eye examination goes well beyond checking whether you need glasses. It involves a careful assessment of every part of the eye — the cornea, lens, retina, optic nerve, and intraocular pressure — to build a complete picture of your ocular health. Many serious eye conditions, including glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, develop without any noticeable symptoms in their early stages. Regular, thorough examinations allow these conditions to be identified and addressed before they cause lasting damage to vision. At Vinayaka Nethralaya, our examinations are conducted by an experienced ophthalmologist using clinical assessment and appropriate diagnostic tools, with every finding explained clearly so patients understand their eye health at every visit.

1

Vision assessment & anterior and posterior eye examination :

Each appointment begins with a careful measurement of visual acuity and refractive error to determine whether glasses or contact lenses are needed or require updating. This is followed by a slit-lamp examination of the front structures of the eye and a dilated fundus examination to assess the retina, macula, and optic nerve. Together these form a thorough baseline of your overall ocular health.

2

Intraocular pressure measurement & disease screening :

Measurement of intraocular pressure is a routine part of every examination and is essential for glaucoma detection. Where clinically appropriate, additional investigations are carried out — including fundus imaging and visual field assessment — to screen for conditions that may not yet be causing any symptoms. Early identification at this stage significantly improves the chances of successful long-term management.

3

Diagnosis & personalised treatment planning :

When a condition is identified or risk factors are noted, a management plan is put together based on the specific findings and the patient's broader health history. This may involve prescribing medication, arranging a procedure, recommending lifestyle changes, or scheduling more frequent monitoring appointments. Patients with systemic conditions such as diabetes or hypertension receive targeted ocular surveillance to catch any eye-related changes without delay.

4

Ongoing monitoring & follow-up care :

Long-term eye health depends on regular review, not just a single examination. Each patient leaves with a follow-up schedule suited to their individual risk profile and current eye health status. Those managing known conditions or with elevated risk factors are seen at closer intervals. Between appointments, our team remains accessible for guidance on any new or changing symptoms that may need prompt attention.

Vinayaka Nethralaya has been providing thorough, patient-focused eye care to the people of Bengaluru since 1994. Whether you are attending for a routine check-up, seeking a second opinion on a known condition, or concerned about a change in your vision, every appointment is given the same level of careful attention. Our goal is straightforward — to help each patient maintain the best possible vision for as long as possible, through honest assessment and appropriate care at every stage of life.

Questions about your eye examination

What happens during a comprehensive eye examination?
The examination covers visual acuity, refractive error, eye pressure, and a full assessment of both the front and back of the eye using a slit lamp and dilated fundus examination. The aim is not just to establish whether glasses are needed but to check the health of the entire eye, including structures that can be affected by conditions like glaucoma, diabetes, or age-related changes. Any findings are explained clearly at the end of the appointment and a management or monitoring plan is put in place where needed.
How often should I schedule a comprehensive eye examination? +
For adults with no known eye conditions and no significant risk factors, an examination every one to two years is generally appropriate. More frequent visits — typically every six to twelve months — are advisable for patients over sixty, those with a family history of glaucoma or macular degeneration, individuals with diabetes or high blood pressure, and anyone already managing an eye condition. Your doctor will advise you on the right interval for your circumstances at the end of each appointment.
Which symptoms mean I should come in urgently rather than waiting? +
Certain symptoms need to be assessed promptly rather than at a routine appointment. These include a sudden reduction in vision, a new curtain or shadow across part of your visual field, a significant increase in floaters or flashes of light, eye pain accompanied by redness and blurred vision, or any rapid unexplained change in how you see. If you experience any of these, contact us as soon as possible so we can arrange a timely assessment and rule out conditions that require immediate attention.
